Course Description
This is a certification course covering the introductory level of Reiki, a Japanese traditional technique for reducing stress, relaxing, and promoting healing. Reiki is based on the concept that each of us is a part of a “universal life-force energy.” If our energy is too low or too high, we are more likely to get sick and feel stress; if more balanced and clear, we are more likely to feel healthy and happy. “Reiki” is derived from two Japanese words, “Rei” meaning “God or Universal Wisdom” and “Ki” meaning “life energy.” Together, Reiki is a process of intentionally focusing or allowing energy to be sent or guided to all levels of one’s life, body, mind, soul, and spirit, done for one’s highest sense of good and well-being.
The Reiki I certification class provides an overview and basic history of Reiki, as well as initial attunements to one’s “universal energy.” Ethics of touch and use of Reiki with other modalities also is included. Participants learn basic techniques and hand positions which can be used in their work with others as well as with self-treatments. Completion of Reiki I certification is a prerequisite for Level II certification.
Learning Outcomes: The Participant:
- Will be able to explain what Reiki is, including basic historical facts and how it can be applied for working with others and with self;
- Will be able to identify fundamental ethical considerations for providing hands-on energetic services to others;
- Will be able to describe how Reiki can be used with energetic and other modalities, including massage and bodywork, counseling and psychology, medicine, chakras, auric fields, etc.; and
- Will be able to demonstrate basic Reiki hand positions, including positions for working with another person and positions for working with oneself.
